Shuters Top Class Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) Grades 7-9 for the Senior Phase has been carefully planned and written by a group of EMS specialists with vast experience and expertise in this Learning Area. The mater ial has been designed in accordance with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for Senior Phase, Grade 7-9 and aims to equip learners with real-life skills for personal development and the development of the community. It focuses on the efficient and effective use of different types of private, public or collective resources to satisfy people's needs and wants while reflecting critically on the impact of resources exploitation on the environment and the people. The mater ial also deals with the effective management of scarce resources in order to maximise profits. It is a new series for the Senior Phase that consists of a Learner's Book and Teacher's Guide for Grades 7, 8 and 9. The Learner's Book is divided into d ifferent sections and units of work and comprises of a comprehensive Year Plan, Flow Diagrams that provide learners with a broad overview of the work to be covered in each unit, Revision on each terms work as well as revision on the work for the entire year. An overview of the work to be covered is outlined at the beginning of each unit. New words are contained in strategically placed Word Boxes and important phrases and central themes are highlighted under Key Concepts for every unit of work. Relevant and meaningful Activities have been included at the end of every unit for learners to reinforce the information provided. The Learner's Book concludes with guidelines for examination preparation, study techniques and examination writing skills as well as Templates of Accounting Frameworks. The Teacher's Guide also incorporates a Comprehensive Year Plan to guide the teacher together with Exemplars of all Formal Assessments with model answers and memoranda. Suggested answers to the activities are also included and guidelines for the teacher provide valuable insight into the work covered.
